As far as we can tell, the mechanism and the distortion may not be the same, but it's likely they're connected. This island and everything about it is under the sway of that thing, somehow.

It really is like a natural disaster.

How did you find out killing people was the way to correct it?

It sounds geological in origin, but it's not. Though, given enough time or bad luck, it can affect landmasses.

We found out the old-fashioned way. There were others here, before, who knew the island a bit better -- though not by much.
