!Basics
Last Resort is a private, invite only murdergame set at an all inclusive resort on a lush, tropical island. Food, drinks and all other amenities (including local wifi!) are free; pay no attention to the obligatory murder that has to happen for the best interests of all parties. Characters will find that this spontaneous vacation is mandatory and non-consensual, though they may recall seeing an advertisement for a tropical getaway recently.
The game is scheduled to run for 6 weeks, starting on May 13th, with a maximum of 30 characters (not including mod characters) and will be run scapegoat style. As Last Resort is a direct invite only game, you'll need an invite from one of the moderators: Limon Basil, Fyre, or Lum to play. All reserve slots will be held for 48 hours after reserves open, before we offer the slot to someone else. At the moment there are no plans to open up the game beyond direct invites, however if this changes it will be announced on discord after reserves.

!FAQ
What's the weekly schedule like?Aside from the first week of the game, which will be a peace week with no traditional investigation/trial, the schedule is as follows:
• Weekly Mingles: Monday, 1PM EST
• Investigation: Friday, 6PM EST
• Trial: Saturday, 1-8PM EST
• Executions: Sunday, 3PM EST
What about motives or events?
While there will be an overarching incentive for characters to murder, there won't be any tailored motives or motive announcements. Similarly, there won't be any regularly scheduled events beyond the weekly tasks, but if copious shenanigans happen and something event-flavored is warranted, we'll post advance warning in the discord first.
And the overall game schedule?
• Reserves and Applications OPEN: April 28th, 1PM EST
• Applications CLOSE: May 11th, 11:59 PM EST
• Game START: May 13th, 1PM EST
• Projected End Date: June 24th
What types of characters can I app?
All characters need to be 16 years or older (14+ with suitability section) or mentally 16+ in the case of artificial lifeforms etc. Characters should be able to interact reasonably with a human-sized setting; unusual nonhumanoids or very large or small characters may need to be humanized or resized to some extent (feel free to ask questions and discuss with us!). Characters may be taken from brink of death where applicable, however characters who are dead in canon and have no corporeal body will need to be taken from an earlier canon point (ex: zombies/ undead with a physical form are OK.) Characters with unusual states of existence such as possession, etc. will be taken on a case by case basis
The franchise/cast cap is 3, (moderator characters do not count towards the cap) and OC's and CRAU's are not allowed.
Characters with canon powers, whether they're minor or not, are highly encouraged. We'll have five (5) slots for non-powered characters if needed, but this is your chance to really let loose, be silly, or both.
So given powers are on, what are the restrictions on those?
Game-breaking and setting-breaking powers will be nerfed. Mind control and adjacent powers will be nerfed. Teleportation, flight and other space-time related powers will also see restrictions or nerfs within reason. Characters whose abilities are a part of their biology or who have unusual biological or technological features, characters with summons or pets, characters with unusually large arsenals (RPG characters, shounen protags, etc.) and so on will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
We'll do our best to work with what you'd like to play. If in doubt, ask!
Is there any form of AC/Activity Expectations?
As murdergames work best when everyone is engaged, we expect everyone to be active! However, we won't be enforcing any strict activity criteria beyond voting in trial. If you need to miss a trial for any reason, please contact us ahead of time.
As there is no traditional AC, there will also be no AC bonus system.
What is the task system like?
Every week, tasks will be posted to the network on the log. Generally speaking, tasks will encourage characters to bond in some way, though this doesn't always need to be in a positive fashion. As a reward, characters will receive either a generic item or something from home, depending on the task! We'll have more details on task rewards when the submission page goes live, closer to game start.
How does the network work?
All characters will have access to the intranet on the island, which they can use to communicate to each other and the NPC(s). Communication can be done in a private 1-1 message, or on the group channel which is public to everyone, much like a discord server or public tweet.
As using the network requires a username tied to each device, there is no anonymous posting, except for polls... stay tuned for more details closer to game start!
How do murders work?
Every week aside from the first, which will be a peace week, at least one murder will occur. Primarily we're running on a murder proposal system, where any player is free to sign up their character to murder before the weekly deadline; all you'll need is a basic proposal and potential victims. If your proposal is accepted we'll contact you to work out the details along with your victim. In the event we receive no murder proposals for the week, we'll select killer/victim based on the OOC preference given during applications.
What about trials and investigations?
Investigations will take place on Fridays, and will start with a free-for-all body discovery segment where all characters are welcome to explore and search for that rarin' coffin treasure. After the body (or bodies) is found, investigation proper can begin: area toplevels will be provided and characters can explore at their leisure. There will be no area clear notifications, so search carefully!
Trials will take place on Saturdays to allow characters to debate and decide who to vote for; voting may take place at any time during trial and votes may be updated OOCly at any time before trial end. Please remember that voting is your AC check-in for the game and plan accordingly! Characters will be voting for one (1) culprit and a scapegoat vote (voting for an innocent party) is possible. Incidentally, characters will not be told if there is more than one killer in the case of multiple victims, nor will they be able to vote more than once.
What about executions?
Every Sunday after trial, an execution will be held for the voted character, regardless of whether they are guilty. Rather than be executed by NPCs or the environment, other player characters will carry out the execution. OOCly players will be able to submit their characters to be the executioner immediately after trial ends, and will be notified ASAP if they're selected. As this selection is entirely OOC, you're free to sign up for execution even if your character wouldn't volunteer ICly.
Once the executioner has been selected, we'll make an announcement in discord and create a group chat to plot out the execution. As the execution is threaded, the executioner will need to be present Sunday afternoon to complete the thread. An example of a player execution can be found here.
What's the lowdown on Private Conversations (PCs)?
Private Conversations allow characters to conduct business, plot and plan, share information, and so forth in private without the risk of being seen or overheard by other parties. For further details, please see the PCs page.
Is there anything else I should know?
As this is a game among friends, we're aiming for a chill vibe, both in allowing full powers on and going a little lighter in a narrative sense. We trust you, so please don't try to break the game!
Wait, I have more questions!
Drop it here and we'll be happy to answer!

So does that mean that in the instance of multiple killers (let's just say two for this example), everyone only writes in one name and then the characters with the first and second majority of votes get executed for the case? Or would it be something else?
Sorry if this seems to be a silly question, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding the system! Thanks for your time.

Regardless of the number of killers, there will only be one character executed by vote at the end of trial. Using the two killers example, even if both killers are outed at trial, only the killer with the majority of votes would be executed on Sunday.
However, this applies to official executions only, and if a character wanted to take justice into their own hands in a proposal the week after, or attempt a mid-trial, they're free to do so.

If a character is literally just a digitized copy of their consciousness at their current point in canon, like. It's a plot point that they're separated from their body, stuck in the matrix, and having to try to get back out to reality.
Upon being sent on vacation are they stuck in an appropriate body basically approximating the one they had before they got stuck in the matrix, or?
And a corollary: if a character actually only exists in the matrix, and has never existed for real physically, are they also just given some appropriate human? robot? body based on how they represent themselves in digital space?

As for what these differences are, let us know if you decide to go this route and we can discuss in more detail in a mod chat.

alice is able to control monsters to do whatever she wants with harnesses that she has on them, which are powered by an extremely-hard-to-find power source
made of people. she's able to do the maintenance work on them with no problem, but if they get busted the monsters are just. wild jrpg monsters.nixing it in the interest of not potentially having a wild monster running around causing problems isn't really that big of a deal since she has jrpg magic anyway, but i figured i may as well bring it to y'all to see what you guys think since it. is a fairly big part of her whole schtick, even if i was only really thinking about maybe bringing one.

her controller for the device is built into the handle of her riding crop that she usually has with her, would that be bundled in? other than using it for one (1) move to channel electricity through and just smacking people really hard, it doesn't have any other function to it.
bless u three for putting up with my bullshit :pray4u:
