[ There's something like a chuckle, his lips breaking out into a grin. ]
I've said that before. But you're right, so I'll give it to you.
My quirk is called decay. It does exactly what you think it does, but you've gotten to see it. Anything I touch with my hands I can turn to ash, and anything that touches can also turn to ash. Like a domino effect, but think particle by particle.
So if you didn't cut off your foot you'd be a giant pile of dust in seconds.
[He can’t help but think of the abomination Shockwave keeps in a tank - that poor thing that melts anything he comes into contact with. What terrible destruction.
But here Shigaraki is, walking and talking free as anything.]
A difficult power to control, I assume? How did you do it?
Difficult's the wrong word. I had no control over it until recently—anything with five fingers just turned to dust. It wasn't like I channeled energy or had to think about it, it was automatic like how paper is flammable.
Controlling it was...I was suppressing myself, actually. Without being aware. Once I stopped that, I got more power and control.
[ A bit of a smile that widens at the not-question. ]
When my quirk awakened fully I leveled an entire city without realizing it. They covered it up on the news sayin it was a massive quake that was isolated only to that area. Yeah right.
Well that's the entire thing. They can't have society thinkin' the bad guys are actually winning now. It'd all start to fall apart pretty quickly, and I'm sure some of 'em would join our side just to save their hide.
[ A particularly crooked grin spreads across his features. ]
I owe my Master a lot but he doesn't own me and he doesn't tell me what to do. During his prime he was the leader of the Underworld, but that was decades ago.
I'm the leader now and no one'll take that from me. Not even him.
[ Were he the Shigaraki Tomura of a few months ago, he would have stubbornly stopped the conversation here. But after a beat he continues, with an edge of amusement. ]
I wanna know cuz it's not exactly a common thing to like destruction ain't it? But even among those of us who do, there's different reasons. We're not one mindless horde like heroes try to make us out to be.
Destruction is fun to me, but a few of my allies are real big on the change thing. They go hand in hand so it works out for us. And guys like us lost our minds years ago. [ A statement of fact, like that summer is hot and winter is cold. ]
[ That's what he always wants. To destroy, completely, wholly, unequivocally—mostly. But in the grand scale? ]
That's what my quirk is and that's who I am, so yeah. We gotta keep things moving 'round here, right? And as fun as it would be to do it myself, some destruction comes better from the inside. [ This isn't his usual MO but the echoes of his Master linger in the shadows and in his body. ]
Kinda, but not like that. Some people need incentives to really let go, yeah? However you wanna do it, but ain't it fun to see the different ways people break?
[ Nebulously a kill switch without it only being about moving when no one else wants to. Goading, encouraging, whatever it takes to get people to think about killing a bit more.
In practice, maybe this is why Skywarp was awake during week 4 curfew, in other universe maybe he caught someone who had doubts and convinced them to murder, maybe even assisted in it directly. But in this universe, we got go-karts and dancing queens. ]

[He phrases it like he’s actually asking, but…]
I think you do. As compensation for my losses.

[He can apply that to his own situation, in a sense.]
I wonder how much destruction it took to get there.

[He’d know a thing or two about that.]
Makes me wonder who your leader must be, to tame someone like you.

[They may be kindred spirits in that regard, being their own leaders.]
So I’m already speaking to who’s in charge?
no subject
[ He cocks his head to the side as if to ask: why, got a complaint or suggestion? ]
no subject
[He leaves it at that; seems he doesn’t have to go far to cosy up to the ruler of this thing.]
Oh, but you had a question to ask me in exchange. I’ve got one more of my own before I answer. Why do you want to know?

[Well, he’s just being playful about the idea.]
Chaos is fun, isn’t it? Overturning, upending…nothing more refreshing than change.
[He rolls his head to one side.]
Perhaps I’ve always been that way. Perhaps I’ve spent too much time with nothing going on. Or perhaps, I’ve just lost my mind?
no subject
[ Which is both something and nothing. ]
Destruction is fun to me, but a few of my allies are real big on the change thing. They go hand in hand so it works out for us. And guys like us lost our minds years ago. [ A statement of fact, like that summer is hot and winter is cold. ]
But I wouldn't have it any other way.
no subject
Me neither. Now I've become unburdened I can never go back. Not when I've become who I really am.
[He leans forward, resting an elbow on his knee.]
We think alike. Understand each other. I don't suppose you'd be open to a partnership? If you can, with this little game.
no subject
His amusement is still there, but his gaze is more serious, contemplative. ]
Depends on what a partnership means to you. [ A cock of his head to the side in a silent ask. ]

But I don't play to lose, 'specially with how I am now. So sure, why not.
I'm guessin your services are geared towards the killing kind?

They can be. That what you want?
